Love

I don't know about you, but sometimes I struggle with feeling like I deserve to be loved. I can be a harsh critic, especially when it comes to myself. I struggle with acceptance. I tend to be much more understanding of others, but I tend not to give myself much slack. This is something that I didn't really realize about myself for a long time, especially regarding the impact it can have. But it's something that has been brought to the forefront recently. And I need to change. I need to let love in freely from others. And I need to know that it's okay to love myself too. God loves me with an unconditional love. It's something I don't always realize. I mean, I know it on an intellectual level. I know that I deserve love and that I am loved. But emotionally sometimes there's a disconnect. What does it mean to be loved unconditionally? It means complete and total acceptance. No matter what choices I make, what road I go down, God loves me.  Period.  End of story. And guess what? He feels the same way about you.

I heard this song recently and it's been stuck in my head ever since. The words to this song are simple, but they come from an emotional place and hit me as such. It speaks to me and some of the things I've been going through recently.  I really like the song and I hope you'll enjoy it too.

How He Loves
Jared Anderson

He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy

When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realize just how beautiful you are
And how great your affections are for me

He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy

When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realize just how beautiful you are
And how great your affections are for me

Oh how he loves us so
Oh how he loves us
How he loves us so
Yeah, and how he loves us so
Oh how he loves us
How he loves us so

Yeah he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
(repeat)

We are his portion and he is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in his eyes
If his grace is an ocean, we're all sinking
Heaven meets Earth like a sloppy wet kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about, the way

Yeah he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
(repeat)

The song was written by John Mark McMillan and the story behind it was interesting to me.  Perhaps it would be to you as well.  Check it out...

And remember, you are deeply, truly loved, unconditionally.  There's nothing you can do to deserve such love and there's nothing you can do to not deserve such love.  That's kind of amazing, isn't it?  Life changing even.
