Who I Am

First and foremost I’m a child of God and that’s the perspective the song below is coming from.  But, that’s not the only relationship I think about when I hear it.  I’m many things to many people.  I’m a wife and a mother, a daughter and a sister, a teacher and a student, a friend and…well, you get the idea.

One of the relationships I find myself thinking about when I hear this song is the one between Michael and I, and who I am to him.  It strikes me that in the song Jason Gray is asking God to remind him who he is to him.  I do need to be reminded of that sometimes myself.  And I find that I need to be reminded of who I am to Michael as well.  I ask him often (probably too often if you ask him) to tell me how things are between us, who we are to each other, what our roles are, and what it all means.  It’s not that I don’t know really, but I just need to be reminded sometimes.  Sometimes Michael reminds me with words, other times it’s more of a physical reminder, sometimes a combination of both.

Note: Before anyone gets carried away, I’m not equating my relationship with Michael to my relationship with God.

Anyway, I really like this song.  It gets stuck in my head actually and I find myself humming or singing it. And the music video is great too.  I could delve into the song deeper, thinking about my perception of myself, insecurities and the need for self acceptance, but I think I'll refrain from that for now.  Instead, I'll focus on the unconditional love and acceptance God offers me and how blessed I am to have that not only from him, but from others in my life as well.  Sooooo, I guess I should go ahead and share the song with you.  I hope you enjoy it!

Jason Gray
Remind Me Who I am

When I lose my way,
And I forget my name,
Remind me who I am.
In the mirror all I see,
Is who I don't wanna be,
Remind me who I am.

In the loneliest places,
When I can't remember what grace is.

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you.
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you.
To you.

When my heart is like a stone,
And I'm running far from home,
Remind me who I am.
When I can't receive your love,
Afraid I'll never be enough,
Remind me who I am.

If I'm your beloved,
Can you help me believe it.

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you.  Whoa
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you.
To you.

I'm the one you love,
I'm the one you love,
That will be enough,
I'm the one you love.

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you.
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you.  Whoa

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you.
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you.

To you.

To you.
